Beta Alanine is a naturally occurring amino acid which assists muscles to avoid lactic acid build up. It speeds up recovery and reduces muscle fatigue. Beta Alanine acts as an intracellular buffer by synthesising the amino acid Carnosine. Carnosine is found in type 1 and type 2 muscle fibres, but occurs in higher quantities in type 2 fibres. Type 2 fibres are primarily used during high intensity strength workouts and are therefore more likely to grow and create hypertrophy. Supplementing with Beta Alanine increase Carnosine levels dramatically creating more of this powerful intracellular buffer.
